Eyelid Surgery in Turkey
Eyelid Surgery in Turkey (Blepharoplasty) is a surgical technique to remove excess, sagging skin and tighten the tissues around the eyes. Weight-bearing skin can hang over the eyes and cause visual problems. As you age, the skin can lose its elasticity, and because of this, excess skin is collected on the eyelids. Sagging of the skin naturally occurs due to the effects of gravity and ageing.
You may suffer from headaches in the evening and have a sleepy appearance caused by wrinkles and sagging around the eye area. Aesthetically weight bearing skin on the eyelids can cause a tired, dull-looking appearance. Factors such as sun exposure, irregular sleep, air pollution and heavy smoking can all accelerate the ageing process of the skin.
Upper Eyelid stitches are placed in the eyelid's crease, which is dissolvable and will not leave a scar. Lower Eyelid surgery requires an incision just below the eyelashes or on the inside of the lower eyelid. The surgeon will then either remove or reposition the fat pad to smooth them out and also remove the skin supporting the muscles and tendons of the eyelid.
What to expect?
Step 1 - Anaesthesia
For your comfort during the surgical procedure, you are given medication. You will be given local anaesthesia with intravenous sedation or a general anaesthetic. Your doctor will advise you.
Step 2 - The incision
The incision lines for eyelid surgery are made so that the resulting scars are well hidden within the natural structures of the eyelid region. The upper eyelid can be corrected by making an incision within the natural crease of the eyelid. This allows for the tightening of muscles, removal of excess skin as well as removing or repositioning of fat deposits.
Conditions of the lower eyelid can be corrected with an incision just below the lower lash line. Through this incision, the excess skin of the lower eyelid is removed. Here too, the excess fat can be repositioned or removed.
A transconjunctival incision, made on the inside of the lower eyelid, is an alternative technique for correcting the lower eyelid and redistributing or removing excess fat.
Step 3 - Closing the incisions
The incisions will either be stiched or your surgeon may use skin glue. You will have stitches in it for about a week.
